So... what's going on with the Lakers, JJ Redick and Dan Hurley?
A little look behind the curtain on the latest chapter in the Lakers' search for a head coach.
From the onset of the Lakers’ search for a head coach, it was made very clear they liked the idea of JJ Redick growing into the role, according to sources. They had been impressed with his rise through the sports entertainment industry and thought his relationship with LeBron James could be real tool for his success.
Heading into his interview, I was told in clear terms that the Lakers were “hoping to be impressed,” according to a source close to the team, and if there was one thing you could bank on, it would be Redick impressing in his interview. He wound up impressing in his interview.
After that interview, though, the process hit a bit of a snag as Redick would not consider taking the job until after the NBA Finals.
Fast forward to the morning of Game One in those Finals, and Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers and Dan Hurley, head coach of UCONN, are in talks for this position and are preparing to make him a serious offer to leave college basketball.
Sources say the Lakers are now focused on either Redick or Hurley for the position, and no offer to either has been made.
