Lakers news and notes heading into free agency
The Lakers might be in line for, dare I say it... a boring offseason? They're capable of those?
The NBA draft came and went and the Lakers… just took someone in the first round? And kept him? Yeah sure they made a trade, but it was only to move up from the 47th overall pick to No. 40 for a little extra cash, and they kept that guy too. How, boring? The Lakers do boring?
The context under which such a boring draft took place is worth noting (the only trades made that night were salary dumps), but still, it’s news to us that the Lakers could be even relatively boring.
What’s crazier is, by all indications publicly and privately, that draft seems to be the tone the Lakers are looking for this offseason. Per league sources, the likeliest scenario this summer is a somewhat trimmed down version of running it back.
This is obviously subject to change as the Lakers are still working the phones on potential deals (Indiana and Brooklyn’s numbers have been saved, circled and highlighted in the Lakers’ contacts), but as it stands now, next year’s roster will look very similar to the one that ended last season.
